A $300 Million Dream
So, the Federal government has $700 billion of taxpayer money to spend. A lot of that money is going to banks while small businesses go bust and homeowners lose their homes to foreclosure. Given that the economy is slowing because fewer people have money to spend and aren't spending what little money they have wouldn't it be nice - as well as cheaper and more politically expedient - just to give everyone $1 million? It is taxpayer money after all. Why not return it to us? A one-time $300 million payout is way cheaper than what's being proposed now and a good number of recipients would spend at least 10% of that money. I know, I know, the unemployment rate would skyrocket with all those instant millionaires. But think of how robust the retail and real estate sectors would become. Or is that one of those redistributions of wealth that conservatives are against?
